IANS reporter Amiya Kumar Kushwaha was slapped inside a court room while some other journalists were attacked within the court premises by lawyers shouting " Bharat Mata ki Jai " slogans. He has sought direction to police to ensure that "the proceedings against Kanhaiya Kumar at the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate Loveleen, is carried out in a manner which is not prejudicial to the fundamental rights of the persons, such as the petitioner (Jaiprakash), attending the proceedings". The idea behind the centers is not only for refugees to be reliably registered and their fingerprints recorded in the EU-wide Eurodac system, but also for so-called economic migrants from countries such as Pakistan, Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa to be separated immediately from the refugees whose asylum claims are deemed to be legitimate - for example people fleeing the Syria conflict. Police officials earlier said the men were aged 22, 28 and 39 but the coast guard said that according to their passports they were 35, 36 and 40 years old. Announced in its final form last August, the Clean Power Plan aims to reduce heat-trapping carbon pollution from power plants, which the EPA says generate 32 percent of total carbon emissions. Its carbon-emission targets were relaxed from earlier goals and the state also received credit for the under-construction nuclear power Plant Vogtle. (more...)
