LeGarrette Blount reportedly signing with Eagles

LeGarrette Blount and the Patriots won at Indy Sunday

Blount rushed for 1,161 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, helping the Pats to the Super Bowl LI title.

He's a big back at 6 foot and weighing 250 pounds, but Blount can get up off the ground when leaping into the end zone.

The Eagles weren't shy about their desire to find a three-down running back this offseason, and they didn't have one coming out of the draft. In 2015, Blount landed on Injured Reserve with a hip injury, and did not play in the postseason. However, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals did have an offer to the running back on the table. Prior to the 2016 season, that was his career high in rushing touchdowns.

The Eagles were not projected to gain any compensatory picks so they can sign Blount without any negative repercussions, unlike other teams that showed interest like the Baltimore Ravens or New York Giants. He had 299 carries last season and has 34 career regular-season games with at least 15 carries.

School Director Ken Wiltz said the personnel will need to be trained not to use what has been budgeted, but only what they need. He was followed by Hoffman with 1,466, Blais at 1,248 and Jennyfer Gleason, the race's fourth candidate, with 934 votes.

Blount had been repeatedly connected with Detroit, especially after the Lions didn't select a running back in the 2017 National Football League draft.

Blount's greatest value as a bruising back comes in short-yardage situations.

The Eagles desperately needed to add an early-down running back to the roster. And if the contract involved minimal guarantees, they could have cut him with minor salary cap and comp pick implications. This is likely Sproles' a year ago, too, so the Eagles could reshape their backfield for 2018.
