Wizards react to F-bomb chants against Kelly Oubre: 'That's Boston, man'

Wednesday night it was home to one of the best nights of Avery Bradley's career.

Bradley scored only four points in the second half, and Thomas had a relatively quiet game by his standards (18 points on 5-of-13 shooting) but several other Celtics stepped out into the spotlight.

With Al Horford on his way to 19 points (on 8-of-9 shooting) and Jae Crowder en route to 18, the Wizards were being made to pay for their attention to Thomas.

"We have to stay in the moment", Isaiah Thomas said of Game 6. But the Celtics now own a 3-2 series lead and can advance to the Eastern Conference Finals with a win in Washington DC on Friday night. For the Celtics, this win means a road loss in Game 6 in Washington D.C. doesn't carry with it the same must-win pressure. Add in the fact that they have been able to get under the Celtics skin over the last two seasons, and you can see why the C's have struggled at times. Boston G Isaiah Thomas was fined $25,000 by the National Basketball Association for "directing inappropriate language toward a fan" in Washington during Game 4.

Yet Bradley was incredible offensively Wednesday night, making 10-of-13 shots for 25 points in the first half alone.

"The great start kind of got us going on both ends of the floor", Bradley said. "We've got to do a better job of using the whole court to at least manage that".

After a 4-0 Wizards lead to begin the game, Boston retaliated with a 16-0 run and never looked back. We take him into the post, we try to hit him and run him off screens as much as possible but they do a good job of knowing my ball screens.

On the flip side, The Wizards margin of victory over Boston in their four homes games are 15, 19, 25 and 27 points. Their 2017 playoff low was 103 - in their Game 5 win over the Atlanta Hawks in the first round.

Thomas also slammed his face into the court in Game 2, though the Celtics refuted reports of a broken jaw. The C's need to find a groove early and slow the game down. But it was a show of emotion that Bradley said might be a bridge too far - even for a guy who's feeling freer to embrace his inner tough man. "I think Al brings so much to this team". Even as the Celtics desired to push the pace on nearly every possession, the Wizards' defense trailed behind these transition plays. But the Wizards' defeat in Game 5 felt just as bad as their co-tenants' season-ender in Game 7.

That's OK, though. The boos sure to come from Celtics fans keep him going. He went off for 25 points, his career high for the playoffs, and did it on 10-13 shooting and 4-5 from three.

Celtics fans chanted "We want Oubre!"

Washington made its first two shots, then blew its next eight attempts.

The second quarter continued to go the Celtics' way. He was either upset they called it Wizards ball or that there wasn't a foul called. Well, if there was ever a performance to give them supreme confidence going forward, it was Wednesday night.

"If you miss a shot, you miss a shot", Brooks said.
